Health & Safety Services

ShambhaCares

The driving force behind Shambhala Music Festival’s extensive Harm Reduction is simple: "It’s all about the people on the dancefloor." Over the past 25 years, Shambhala has established itself as a leader in health and safety standards in the North American festival industry, and we plan to continue to lead this conversation well into the future. Encompassing all aspects of harm reduction from sexual health, a strong medical team, and various safe spaces, the Shambhala Music Festival Harm Reduction team ensures that all patrons, as well as staff, are educated on how to ensure the festival is an accepting and safe environment.

Accessibility Zone

Our Accessibility Zone is located near Downtown and specially catered for the members of our Shambhala community with mobility disabilities. Power access is available for charging motorized wheelchairs. For further information or inquiries into our Accessibility Zone campground, contact sales@shambhalamusicfestival.com.

ANKORS

ANKORS has been serving the Kootenays for over two decades and is always an important presence at Shambhala Music Festival. They provide complimentary, judgement-free drug testing, harm reduction supplies, services and information about safer sex and partying. Learn more about ANKORS here.

Medical

Full medical services are available 24 hours a day. Whether you’ve cut yourself and need stitches, need access to emergency contraceptives or for something as simple as a new band-aid, we’re here for you. Shambhala medical is a judgement-free zone. You can also safely store and refrigerate any medications you have.

Get Home Safe

Please consider local hotel/motel/camping options if you have a long drive home ahead of you. You can also stay on-site Monday night and leave Tuesday by 12pm if you need additional rest.

Options for Sexual Health

Options is Canada’s largest non-profit provider of sexual health services, providing free, non-judgmental sexual education. Talk to Options volunteers for free condoms and safe sex supplies.

Outreach

The Outreach Team is one of our best resource for safety and harm prevention. Outreach volunteers can be found at the gate of the festival and roaming throughout the grounds. Ask them any health and safety questions you might have, and for directions to harm reduction services.

Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is a calm safe haven nestled in a grove of old-growth trees right next to Medical Services and is the true embodiment of Shambhalove. The Sanctuary provides non-judgmental service and support and welcomes anyone who feels they need a safe, quiet place to rest at any time during the festival. If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, isolated, cold, wet, need to get out of the sun for a while, just need to chill out, or need someone to talk to, our Sanctuary volunteers will be happy to help. Our Sanctuary is open and staffed 24 hours a day.

Safe Space (Formerly Women’s Safe Space)

In recent years Shambhala Music Festival has extended the mandate of the former Woman’s Safe Space to include any gender or non-binary folks in our community. We will continue to provide 24/7 support for folks in need of a safe comfy space to chat or rest while promoting mandatory consent and healthy communication. Crisis support and post-festival resources are available here.

Security

Security and public safety staff are available at all times. Their goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all guests. If you see dangerous or suspicious behaviour, find the nearest crew member to report it. They will contact Security immediately. Some crew may be identified by wearing a neon Security shirt, an orange Stagekeeper shirt, or a crew member carrying a radio or wearing a crew lanyard.

Camp Clean Beats

Nestled between the stages and workshops that take place over the course of Shambhala Music Festival, is Camp Clean Beats. Working alongside the Harm Reduction Team, Camp Clean Beats is a sober-supportive space where ravers choosing to abstain from substances (including alcohol) are welcomed with open arms! Whether you're stopping by for a quick visit or you decide to make Camp Clean Beats your home base through the duration of the festival, this team offers a safe space and community for sober ravers, including peer-based recovery support and daily meetings for those interested.

Meeting times are from Thursday - Sunday at 10 am, 3pm and 7pm.

Camp Clean Beats welcomes all methods, intentions, and durations of sobriety while prioritizing the ultimate support and safety of the collective within our camping space. You can pre-register your camping spot by emailing this form to Mandy at mandy@shambhalamusicfestival.com
