 Tips & Things to Know

  • Gas up in Salmo before heading to the festival grounds. You may be in line for a while and the drive is a long one, so be prepared. Make sure your vehicle is in good working condition with a proper tune up.  Clean out your air filter before heading home.

  • Keep an extra set of keys available.  Most common things lost!

  • Respect the parking restrictions. Emergency and delivery lanes must be kept clear at all times. Towing can cost up to $160, so drive carefully and respect the signs.

  • Vehicles will be towed if parked in a No Parking Zone.  Report to the Info Booth if your vehicle has been towed.

Need to go to town?  Coming back to the Salmo River Ranch?

Leaving the farm and re-entering the grounds is permitted at Shambhala Music Festival Ltd, but it will cost $10 per person.   There is only one access road into the festival grounds.  During the event, great wear and tear occur that requires maintenance pre and post show.  Festival goers are encouraged to plan for the duration of their stay and keep the traffic on the access road to a minimum.

Drink lots of water – especially if you are in the sun or dancing really hard. If you are working up a sweat then try to drink around 500ml of water per hour. Take regular sips and don't drink too much. Remember to pee regularly too.

Remember to eat while you party – especially if you are dancing. If you're not feeling hungry enough for a meal then eat healthy snacks like fruit (fresh or dried), nuts, carrots (yum!) and salty snacks like crisps, peanuts or crackers. Even a chocolate bar or cookie is better than nothing and will help keep your energy levels up. While water is good, "isotonic" and "energy" drinks are even better because they help replenish salts and minerals lost in perspiration.

During the day if you're out in the sun or down by the river wear sunblock or a hat. Even if it is a bit overcast or cloudy you can still get really sunburned.

The music can be really loud, so consider using earplugs. Small foam ones are cheap and effective ways to protect your hearing. If you don't wear earplugs, be careful not to dance too close to the speakers. If your ears are ringing or "feel dull" then they might have been hurt by the sound intensity. Even a few minutes of exposure to intense high-decibel music can permanently damage your hearing. That means it may be harder to hear the music in the future!

Rest! Sleep! Yah! Get some sleep – even if it is only for a few hours at a time. Remember to take breaks while you're dancing too so that your body has a chance to cool down. If you go too hard for too long without a break it can make our body feel awful and make your mind go crazy – and not in a good way :) Pace yourself! The festival builds for several days and you don't want to crash and burn before the festivities peak on the weekend.

Get some sleep before you drive home too!  We love you all and want you to get home safely so we can all celebrate together again next year.

Party smart, have fun, get some rest once in a while. And remember that if things go bad or the going gets rough you can always come to the Sanctuary behind the First Aid tent for some help and support.
