Grindhouses were known for non-stop programs of B movies, usually double features. Many of these inner-city theatres formerly featured burlesque shows which included "bump and grind".

We are organising an outdoor (perhaps partially covered) drive-in themed theatre at this year's Shambhala. The Grindhouse is seeking films to show at Shambhala.  Hopeful submissions will be attention deficit proof so that someone might be able to wander in on and pick up quickly.  Nothing too heavy for the kiddies - this IS a party. Bumping soundtracks are a plus as we are equipped with 3000 watts of sound.  Films should be submitted on dvd format, preferably in hi-resolution to:

Grindhouse Theatre
108 - 1075 Nelson St.
Vanvouver BC

Please include a short description for review and possible use for a printed program.

  • Themes may include these and more:
     social / environmental awareness;
  • counter culture, underground, audio/video jamming in recent history from around the world;
    * cult classics a la 'Reefer Madness' and the 50's 'Red Scare' genre with old ads for a drive-in feel; and
  • Saturday morning cartoons (of the twisted variety);

We are also open to multi-media performances incorporating the visual medium, any suggestions/submissions will be considered.
