Amoeba Collective is a fusion of Electro-Acoustica and Folk/Roots influences. A group founded by multi-award winners Bill Bourne and Demian Mark (aka Tippy Agogo); have just pushed the envelope of musical innovation in a fresh collaboration with notable guests. “Amoeba Collective” is also the title of their debut full-length record project.
The official release of the record will be this fall, but a limited edition of 100 numbered and signed copies are available at Shambhala 2012! Adding invaluable musical elements to the fundamental song structures are world-renowned virtuoso electric guitarist, Madagascar Slim, and one of Canada’s rock solid star drummers, Michelle Josef, plus the wonderful keyboard and piano styling’s of Montreal’s Tom Mennier, (McGarrigles/Wainwrights).
The songs on the record capture a ‘live-off-the-floor’ tribal feel and contain a spontaneity of music (like their legendary shows with such guests as world class percussionist, Miguel Ferrer and the rising Scott Cook), and for the most part, all the tracks are first takes, having little, or no rehearsals, yet retaining, except for a couple of tunes, the pop tradition of “less than 4 minute songs”, recently alighted at Darryl Neudorf’s famous barn studio, Operation Northwoods, near Orangeville, Ontario. Neudorf is also an award-winning producer, (Neko Case, Sadies, Blue Rodeo, Twilight Circus Dub, New Pornographers, etc.).
“On stage is the strangest thing I’ve seen in my life, and I’ve seen a few … the man repeats clickety-popbeats with his teeth and tongue. He grabs a busted guitar and pounds the top. He shakes a rattle. He bashes a cymbal. Just then, a long-haired folky of international fame walks on stage with his guitar to join the bizarre, one-man tribal symphony. Yes, that’s Juno-award winner Bill Bourne singing and picking next to this mad maestro, Tippy Agogo. All that I could think of at the time was: Somebody should be recording this; this is magic.”
– Scott McKeen, Edmonton Journal
“… audiences have responded in various ways, some were comatose in their seats… others dancing like banshees.” – The Local, Sunshine Coast Jazz & Entertainment Society
Tippy finally decided to become himself again, Demian Mark, but feel free to call him Tippy! Bill and Demian founded the Amoeba Collective to continue their passion of music collaboration. This will be Bill’s first time performing at Shambhala. Also, look for Tip’s free-style trick-frizbee workshops to be announced from the stage at Amoeba Collective’s Labrynthe show. These workshops utilize the music of DJs in the background and will be located at the nearest field. For more info, consult his website tippyagogo.com
Amoeba Collective’s musical creativity fuses the many forms into mystical realms! Check out Bill’s galloping perfect-metered foot stomp, guitar mastery, and one of a kind voice. And feel the loop master’s four octave mouth music and the “scrap-yard soul” of a one-time Agogo. Guests for the show will be announced and listed on the collective’s facebook page.
